# Download the right Free VPN: official links and clear checks

The official Free VPN routes start at freevpnapp.org. Our Apple product uses app ID 1050171910, and our Android product uses package org.freevpn. For Windows and Linux, follow this site's Downloads, Windows or CLI instructions. Compare the route and product identity before installing; a similar app name or unicorn icon is not enough.

## Your Free VPN identity card

“Free VPN” is a description used by many apps. These identifiers make our specific product recognizable without relying on its position in search results. A title, icon or marketing phrase can change; use the product ID and the route published on our website together.

## Choose your device first

For Android, follow the Google Play link above and check the package identifier in the address. Keep normal store safety protections enabled. Do not substitute a third-party APK because it uses the same name.

For iPhone or iPad, follow our Apple listing and check that your device is supported. Mac users can choose the Apple store edition or a supported desktop CLI route through Downloads; those are distinct installation paths with different requirements.

For Windows, use the [Windows setup page](/windows/). It publishes an installer and a PowerShell route. Linux and other terminal users should start with the [CLI instructions](/cli/), which describe supported systems, the background service and the optional companion window. You do not need to create a Free VPN account or enter payment details to begin the free tier through those routes.

## Recognize the simple setup flow

The Free VPN connection does not require a signup account or email registration. Install the official app, approve the VPN profile or system connection request and connect. Mobile users can watch ads to get VPN time; a paid upgrade is optional if they prefer not to watch ads.

A support form may ask how to reply to a request, and an app store may use its own account to distribute the app. Neither is a Free VPN login required to use the connection. If an unfamiliar page demands that you create a Free VPN account before free access, check the exact download route and product ID.

## Read the address, not just the button label

A link can say “official download” while leading to another domain. Check the address bar or destination before installing. The exact hostname matters: an unfamiliar site containing the word freevpnapp is not automatically ours. HTTPS secures the connection to the displayed host; it does not identify that host as the intended publisher.

If a link comes from a message you did not expect, navigate to our website yourself and choose the same device route there. If a store page or package presents a publisher detail you cannot reconcile with these references, ask [our support team](/contact/) before proceeding.

The optional address checker on this page compares a public URL with a small set of official Free VPN website routes and exact store identifiers. It runs locally, makes no network request and downloads nothing. A recognized result is an address-format match, not a security certificate. An unrecognized result means you need another check, not that the link is necessarily malicious.

## Know what desktop verification proves

Our CLI installer documentation describes SHA-256 sidecars beside release downloads and automatic checksum verification before unpacking. For the documented Linux archive, the manual example is:

```sh
curl -fsSL -O https://freevpnapp.org/downloads/LATEST/freevpn-linux-amd64.tar.gz
curl -fsSL -O https://freevpnapp.org/downloads/LATEST/freevpn-linux-amd64.tar.gz.sha256
shasum -a 256 -c freevpn-linux-amd64.tar.gz.sha256
```

Use that example only for the matching archive and environment. The current [CLI documentation](/cli/) is the source for supported package names and installation instructions.

A matching checksum confirms that the downloaded file matches the published digest. Start with the official download route and follow the package-signature and operating-system checks for your installer. Do not bypass an unexpected security warning simply because a filename looks familiar.

## After installing, check the product—not just the icon

Open Free VPN, read its free-access screen and make one connection on a familiar network. You should be able to find connection status and the controls documented for that client. On a supported CLI installation, `freevpn status` reports state and `freevpn doctor` provides diagnostics.

Our [Trust Center](/trust/) explains our privacy commitment, and the [privacy guide](/guides/free-vpn-privacy-limitations/) explains the VPN connection and system-wide Ad Block.

Optional paid upgrades are separate from the official-source question. Check the current price and renewal terms before buying. A payment screen should not be mistaken for the required way to start the free tier.

## If you may have installed a different app

Disconnect the unfamiliar app and use your operating system's normal controls to review installed apps, VPN profiles and permissions. Remove an unwanted configuration through the documented device settings. If you supplied credentials to a suspicious page, use the real account provider's security and recovery instructions.

You can send us the public listing or download URL through [Contact](/contact/) if you need help identifying our product. Do not send passwords, recovery codes or private access links. A public product URL and the visible publisher details are usually enough to start the identity check.

For the next step, use our [before-install guide](/guides/free-vpn-before-installing/) for access and permissions, or the [Android](/guides/free-vpn-android/) and [Windows](/guides/simple-vpn-windows-setup/) guides for their actual connection flows.
