Use the Windows route for Windows
Free VPN supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 through our official Windows download page. Follow that page's current installation instructions. Do not use an Android installer, an unofficial download mirror or a manual VPN profile from an unrelated provider.
Already installed? Open the app first. The Windows setup guide covers installation; this guide is for a connection that is not starting or is not carrying the traffic you expect.
Read the status before you retry
- Disconnected: start a connection in the app and note any message.
- Connecting without completing: check your normal network connection, then compare one other available route.
- Connected, but one website fails: test a second familiar HTTPS site. A service-specific problem is different from a failed VPN connection.
- A free-session pause is displayed: wait for the access cycle shown in the client rather than repeatedly reinstalling it.
The Windows free model described on our current product page is 30 minutes of VPN use followed by a 3-minute break, with Fastest region and General mode. The app shows the current state. Mobile ad-supported time and Windows sessions are different access models.
Check your normal connection
On a trusted network, disconnect briefly and open a familiar website. This sends that check over your normal connection. If it fails too, resolve the Wi-Fi, Ethernet or hotspot sign-in problem before reconnecting the VPN.
If possible, compare another trusted network. A connection that works on one network but not another gives support a clearer signal. On a managed office or school connection, ask the administrator about VPN access; do not change its security policies.
Return to a simple setup
Use Fastest and General for the free baseline. If your plan includes other regions, compare one available nearby region and note the outcome. A region that works once is useful troubleshooting evidence, not a speed guarantee.
Check for another active VPN client. Close or disconnect the other VPN through its normal controls before testing Free VPN. Do not delete adapters, edit the registry or disable security software as a routine connection fix.
App installed, but it cannot start a connection?
Use the current installer from Free VPN for Windows and follow its prompts. Restart Windows after an update if requested. If an error mentions installation, a service or a permission, save the exact wording for support instead of running repair commands from an unknown source.
For an intentionally installed terminal client, use the separate CLI documentation for its supported status and connection commands. The desktop app and terminal workflow should not be mixed by guesswork.
Connected does not mean every service will open
A VPN changes the network route and public IP. It does not fix a forgotten password, create a streaming subscription or change a service's country rules. If other websites work, check the affected service's status and account message before making wider changes to Windows.
Once the connection works, continue with the region and service controls available in your version. Free VPN keeps the starting point straightforward: NO LOGS. NO LOGINS. No VPN signup is required to begin free access; our privacy policy explains the service details.
Give support the information that helps
Contact Free VPN support with your Windows version, app version, exact error, network type and whether the app says connected. Mention whether a second network or region changed the result. Leave out passwords, license keys and private browsing data.
Need the official installer? Download Free VPN for Windows and follow the supported setup from the team behind the app.

Windows connection questions
Why does my free Windows VPN pause after a session?
The published Windows free model includes 30 minutes of use followed by a 3-minute break. Check the app state and current Windows product page. That access cycle is different from an unexpected connection failure.
Should I disable my firewall to connect Free VPN?
Do not disable your firewall as a routine fix. Check the app status, network and current installer first. For a managed device or network, ask the administrator; otherwise send the exact error to Free VPN support.
Can I use the Android setup instructions on Windows?
Use the Windows installation and access instructions for the Windows client. Mobile ad-supported time, Android permissions and Windows free-session rules are different.
What should I send support if my Windows VPN will not connect?
Send your Windows version, Free VPN app version, exact connection error, network type and whether another network or region worked. Do not include passwords or private browsing details.
